Delayed return to school

Delayed return to school in September 2011

It is with a great deal of reluctance that I am writing to inform you that today I have been told by the schools local electricity board suppliers that they are going to undertake work that will totally cut off the school’s electricity supply on Wednesday 7th September which, as you know, is the very day that pupils are due to return to school. I am informed by the board that the supply will be turned off for quite some time during the day, which means that we will not have any power for classrooms, the kitchen, or accommodation.

As a result of this, I am therefore writing to you reluctantly to inform you that the start of the new term will be delayed until the following day, Thursday 8th September.

Just to assure you, I have already written a similar letter to Local Authority transport organisers to inform them of the situation, and to the relevant taxi company that transports you son or daughter to school. So they should make new arrangements accordingly.

Although I am sure that you will understand that the situations is out of my hands, but please accept my apologies for the situation.

Curriculum Enrichment Week

Activity Week Photos

Boys Camp

Over the last five or six years, we have always used the week in July that Year 10 are doing their work experience to do something different for the pupils we have left in Years 7, 8 & 9. This is an opportunity for them all to doing something that they might not  have done before, making it a sort of curriculum enrichment week.

This year the pupils went to the Navel Museum at Portsmouth, visited Mercedes Benz World, The Tower of London, an animal rescue centre, and we had a day in school doing Spanish cookery. Some pupils also went Bargain Hunting and there were two separate camps for boys and girls.

The pupils and staff all had a great time and you can see this from just some of the pictures on the website in the gallery section titled Activity week July 2011.

Year 11 Work Experience for pupils moving into Year 11 in September 2011

Just a quick note to remind all parents and carers of pupils moving into Year 11 in September that they will begin weekly work experience from home every Friday. This means that the pupils will travel home after school on Thursday afternoon in readiness for the next day. This all begins from the first week we return after the summer holidays.

At the moment there are a few pupils who do not have their work placements sorted, so during the holidays perhaps you could help your son or daughter find a place and then let us know the details as soon as we re-open on 7th September.

Throughout the year we will be making regular contact with you and the work place to see how things are going, but if you foresee any problems, or if you need some help or advice in this area, just contact Sue Horsecroft, our careers and work experience advisor and she will be glad to help you.

Please also remember to inform us if your son or daughter is unable to attend any work experience Friday, and don’t forget to let placement know also. It very important to keep everything positive so that the place remains stable and consistent.

If your son or daughter wants to change their placement let us know as soon as possible, and provide us with the information of the new placement so that we can help it happen a smoothly as possible. Remember not to let them just leave, or to have a period of no work experience, because it is not good practice for anybody to go from a job to no job, as I’m sure your agree.

Parents Evening July 13th 2011

Hi,

I hope that all of those of you came to the new style parents evening enjoyed it. It was an attempt for you to see all of the teachers and care staff in one place, rather than going around the site, from classroom to classroom, in the hope of seeing a teacher who was free or being distracted by some of the other things that we normally do on Open Day.

The response I had from speaking to some of you was very positive, so I think that we will do it again next year, but also hold an Open Day so that past pupils and staff can have an opportunity to stay closely linked to the school because I know that this means a lot to them. Current pupils family are more than welcome to come to that too.

Just as a footnote, we managed to collect just over £500. towards the school fund from the raffle, stalls and activities. The money will be used to good cause, doing fun things for the pupils or putting something towards buying equipment that we need. So thank you very much.

Just a reminder to you all to say that school re-opens again on Wednesday 7th September. So have a good family break and take care of each other.
