What Pupils Say (from 2008)

Kyle. 11CH

Well, what can I say except that I come in Year 7 and now it is time to leave. When I first came here I was shy and then my true colours showed. After years progressed I got used to the school. I always used to say "this school is awful" but when you think of it, it does you good. I would like to thank Austin and Sue, who is not here, and John (little), Jason, Richard, Stan, Pat, Blue, Chris D, and "Grandad". I also cannot forget my little twins, Lin and Clare. Just to let you know Clare, Lin is taller than you and is younger but you have better style. Thanks Lin, I will take that £10 later. Angie, Bev and Lester, thanks for helping me when I was stuck or needed someone to talk to. I would like to thanks all the other staff I did not mention. Well, good luck everyone, but especially to you Year 10's going into Year 11, it will go quick.

Thanks everyone.

Kyle.

I have been at Farney Close just over two years now. When I first came I thought I was untouchable and didn't want to listen to anything anyone told me. I remember my first night on Colebrooke with Theresa and Mary and things went really badly. But after that unforgettable start I made the decision to make this work as it was my last chance for an education. I have had a bit of a rollercoaster of ups and downs but now I am finally here. Thanks to Care staff, Dawn, Eileen, Theresa, Jan and Nicky. Also I would like to thank some of the teachers, Nigel, Loraine, Kate, Pete (who I wanted to kill at one point) and Clarence and all those who have helped me along the way.

I am looking forward to moving on but there is a part of me that will always miss Farney.

I started at Farney in September 07, it has gone so quickly. Before I came to Farney I was at another school until it became a boy's school. My behaviour has improved since the day I started here including my work ethic.

I have not made many friends but importantly I have not made any enemies. My time in LR has always been fun, the laughs I have had with the boys I will never forget, so Jake, Steven, Roy I will miss you all. This last year of school has really changed my approach to life. I am hopefully going to get a summer job and in September I'm going to College to study Art and Design. All of the staff here have had a positive effect on my behaviour and helped me become who I am today, Some of these people are:

Loraine, who has always believed I could do well at Maths.
Clarence, who has helped me improve my English and believed I could do whatever I wanted to do.
Mike, helped me to become a enthusiastic Artist and a lot more.

Also thanks to all of the care staff, teachers and all of the management. To all of Sue's House, Yr 11, you were great to work with!

Thank you for helping me so much.

Kitstin

BERNADETTE. 11CH

I came to this school when I was 11 yrs old. I was rude, disruptive and loud, "very loud" but I have made it to the end. In doing this I would like to say thanks to Nikki S, we used to have fantastic talks. Nikki you have made a big difference in my life, more than you could ever imagine. Thank you Pete, even though I never really liked you at first but now I have so much respect for you. You gave me a lot of time and patience which sometimes I didn't deserve.

Well what can I say to Nigel, Jason, Barry, who have been there for me. Jason you're a great guy, so easy to talk to and I appreciate the time you gave me. The same to Barry, fighting my corner when I was on my "last chance!" Nigel you're an easy going bloke and you have so much time for people, especially me even when I was rude to you. But you knew the "I don't care" was so not true, so you gave me your time. Thank you.

You never realise how much the adults do for you here until you are standing where I am now, just coming in for your exams.

To all of you that are left, make the most of school. I kind of did but there are so many times where I never let anyone help me when I should have. Remember, try really hard with your exams. Trust me it will pay off.

Oh yeah, thank you Lin, u r amazing, oh my god, the arguments we had on Audrey. "I was always right". Nah, on a serious note I am grateful for your belief in me.

So Good Luck to everyone.

Take care,

Bernie.

STEVEN. 11LR

Here I am at the end of year eleven. I have been at Farney Close since year 7 and it seems like the time has just flown by these past four years. I have been lucky to have Loraine as my tutor and she has been kind and supportive all the time. I want to thank Nigel for his good help and the fun time we had in class. Clarence has helped me loose weight and he has shown me how to keep fit for life. Kate has helped me with my English, which has got a lot better. Jane has helped me make progress with my food studies. Hopefully I won't starve when I leave here.

Now I come to the care staff.

Firstly, Richard and Blue. They have supported me on the house and given me advice on controlling my temper or frustrations. Blue is always calm and she helps me. Living on the House has been very easy. I have totally enjoyed the evening activities and some of the best off site activities were things like are going to laser quest.

In the future I am looking forward to having a flat and living as independently as possible but I am sure I will come back to see you all.

Finally, I would like to thank Barry for offering me a place at this school. It has been a good place for me to be this last four years.

Steven

ROY. 11LR

I started Farney Close in Year 7 so I have been here four and a half years. When I started I was a bad boy, I swore, cursed Barry, told Angie she was awful and was nasty to all the other kids, but now I think that Angie is great, most of the time ! I nearly forgot about Sara, Lester and Clare and Big John. Lester and Clare were great fun to have a laugh with, but joking aside Lester helped me an awful lot. Sara I didn't like you when I first started but now I think you're great

I found lessons hard to sit still and work hard, but Marilyn has helped me to learn to read and write and Kate has helped me lots too. I also didn't like Jane when I came but now she has helped me cook lots of different food. So it is thanks to Jane that I have got a college interview for a catering and got offered a placement. I start at Brighton City College in September but I'm going to find a job to September. My course is a two year course and I will eventually get two NVQs : Level 1 and 2. I feel very happy and proud of getting into the College.

What can I say about Loraine? She has been a great maths teacher. She has been a good tutor, listening to me. I would give her a pay rise when I leave and ask her be my mum. Loraine is the sort of lady who doesn't get told how good she is often enough.

Thanks to everybody for everything, especially those of you who have helped me and listened to me. I am going to miss you all especially Nanny Lin, Big John, Jane, Barry, Sara, Angie, Lester and Clare, Loraine, Marilyn, Steve, Jake and Kirsten.

I would go back to Year 7 and do it all again if I could, but I'll say good bye for now and I will see you again.

Love you all.

Roy
